Partner: the Project Playground volunteer team

Parents, teachers, staff and neighbors came together to form the Project Playground team, and led a major community design effort to explore ideas to update the playground at John Hay Elementary school. The team received a Seattle Department of Neighborhoods grant and partnered with Site Workshop to create a schematic design based on priorities identified by the community.

Priorities included restoring an existing memorial garden, encircling the play area with a loop path, adding seat steps and turf mounds, and integrating opportunities for nature exploration. Constellation paths, a rocket shaped hop-scotch game and a solar system ball court painted on the pavement pull the design together in a whimsical space theme.

Construction is expected to begin during the summer of 2018 pending achievement of fundraising goals.
